AI SEO tools: what they can and cannot touch

An AI SEO tool can only write the fields your content system exposes. In practice that means the page title, the meta description and the alt text on images — and only on platforms whose interface lets an outside tool write them. Of the 20 website platforms CMS AI Agent connects to, 6 expose SEO fields through their own interface. On the rest, no tool can change your metadata, however it is advertised.

Which platforms expose SEO fields

6 of 20: WordPress, Joomla, Ghost, Webflow, Wix and Sanity. On those, titles and descriptions can be read and written in conversation. Every other platform here keeps its SEO fields inside a theme, a template or a field blob that its own interface will not let an outside tool write — so the honest answer on those is no, and each platform’s own page says which.

What it actually does

You ask for the change in plain language — "give these five pages proper descriptions" — and it writes the fields on the pages you named. On WordPress, an existing Yoast or Rank Math setup is read rather than overwritten. Nothing is published that you have not asked for, and every change is recorded.

What it will not do

It will not promise rankings, because nobody can. It does not generate pages to fill a keyword list, which is the thing that got that tactic penalised. And it will not write a field a platform does not have, which is most of the point of this page.

Is this an SEO audit tool?

No. It does not crawl your site, score it or produce a report. It writes metadata on the pages you point it at, which is the part of SEO work that is repetitive rather than the part that needs judgement.

Questions people ask

Can AI write my meta descriptions?
On a platform that exposes the field, yes — you ask, it drafts, and it writes it where you approve. On a platform that does not expose it, no tool can, and you should be suspicious of one that says otherwise.
Will it overwrite the SEO work I have already done?
Only what you ask it to change. Existing values are read first, and on WordPress an existing Yoast or Rank Math setup is left as it is unless you say otherwise.
Does this improve my rankings?
Nobody can promise that and this does not. What it changes is how long the metadata work takes and how often it gets skipped.
Which platform should I be on for this?
If SEO metadata is the reason you are here, WordPress exposes the most of it. The compatibility checker will tell you what your own site runs and what it can do.
